Description
First published in 1962 and edited by Wilson Rockwell, Memoirs of a Lawman are “Doc” Shores' gripping, as previously unpublished memoirs, spanning his life from his early days on the Western frontier, his appointments as Sheriff, and later Federal Marshall.,With a writing style that matches his iron will and talent for tracking and catching crooks "Doc" Shores tells his tales of outlaws and lawmen in a way that is both a pleasure to read and informative. Encountering many iconic figures including Tom Horn, Alfred Packer(the Colorado cannibal), Jim Clark, a herculean hermit named Reuben Dove and others; the adventures and daring of Doc Shores as a lawman cannot be matched. Renowned for his ability to trail outlaws for weeks and months on end and capture them without excessive force, Shores was a force to be reckoned with. Born in Hicksville Michigan, and moving west while a young man, Shores spent many years as a cowboy, Indian fighter, logger, and hunter throughout Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico, and Texas before becoming Sheriff of Gunnison, Colorado. Shores career as a lawman did not end there. Later in his Career he became a railroad detective for Denver and Rio Grande Express Company, the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad, the Globe Express Company, and chief of police of Salt Lake City.
