Description
The smallest, simplest forms of life on earth, viruses are also the most tenacious and, many scientists believe, the oldest. This classic program explores the history of research into viruses and the ongoing struggle to combat them. Numerous experts offer commentary, including Stephen Morse, virologist at Rockefeller University, and Jonas Salk, famous creator fo the polio vaccine. This program looks at differences between DNA and RNA viruses, like HIV and influenza; the rotavirus, which kills five million children annually; and the incredible victory of the World Health Organization in completely eradicating smallpox.
