Built in 1868, Territorial Prison was the first to house inmates in the Colorado Territory, before Colorado became a state. since then, the prison system has gone through many changes and Territorial has seen them all. riots, escapes, and executions have given Territorial quite the reputation. Incredible wardens have raised eyebrows as well as awareness of the need for reform. After undergoing the trials and tribulations that over a century of justice has to offer, Territorial stands taller than ever. Today, there are may prisons in the Canon City area, but Territorial remains the prison at the end of Main Street, the storied darling, the one that remains open for business a usual one hundred and forty years later.
